Updated 11/27/19 at 8:20 a.m. ET: The individual involved in this incident has died. He’s been identified as Hollis Lewis (DOB 02/06/68), of Bybee TN.

At the request of 3rd District Attorney General Dan Armstrong, TBI Agents are investigating the circumstances leading to an officer-involved shooting that occurred Tuesday evening in Greeneville.

Preliminary information indicates that just before 7:00 p.m., officers with the Greeneville Police Department received a report of a disturbance at Crestview Apartments, located at 1600 Highway 70 Bypass. Upon arrival, officers made contact with a male subject who was trying to gain entry into the apartment of his ex-girlfriend by firing shots at the door. Officers ordered the man to drop the weapon, but he refused to comply with verbal commands. At some point during the confrontation, the situation escalated, resulting in two officers firing shots, striking the man. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. No officers were injured during the incident.

TBI Agents continue to gather any and all relevant evidence and interviews in support of this ongoing investigation.  Throughout the process, investigative findings will be passed along to the District Attorney General for his review and consideration.

The TBI does not identify the officers involved in these types of incidents and instead refers questions of that nature to their respective agency.

Any updates on this investigation will be posted on TBINewsroom.com.
