COLLIERVILLE – At the request of 30th District Attorney General Amy Weirich, TBI Agents are investigating the circumstances surrounding an officer-involved shooting that occurred Monday morning in Collierville involving officers with the Collierville Police Department.

Preliminary information indicates the incident began at 8:10 a.m. when officers with the Collierville Police Department responded to a call regarding a possibly suicidal man with a gun outside of a home in the 900 block of Valleywood Cove.  Numerous officers encountered the armed man in the backyard of his home.  After repeated demands for the man to drop the weapon, at some point, for reasons still under investigation, at least one of the officers opened fire, striking and killing the man.

The deceased individual has been identified as David Richard Hoal (DOB: 7-25-59).

TBI Agents continue to gather any and all relevant evidence and interviews in support of this ongoing investigation.  Throughout the process, investigative findings will be passed along to the District Attorney General for her review and consideration.

The TBI does not identify the law enforcement officers involved in these types of incidents and instead refers questions of that nature to their respective agencies.

Any updates on this investigation will be posted on TBINewsroom.com.
