At the request of 3rd District Attorney Dan Armstrong, TBI Special Agents are investigating the circumstances that led to an officer-involved shooting Tuesday morning in Morristown.
Preliminary information indicates that just before 10:00 a.m., the Morristown Police Department received a report of a domestic dispute at a home on Dedra Street. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the subject, identified as Lanny Carroll (DOB 9-26-65), behind the residence. At some point during the confrontation, Carroll reached for a gun which resulted in one of the officers firing shots, striking Carroll at least once. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.
TBI Special Agents will gather any and all relevant interviews and evidence as part of this ongoing investigation. As in any case, our investigative findings will be shared with the District Attorney General throughout the process for his consideration and review.
As is our policy, the TBI does not identify the officers involved in these types of incidents and instead refers questions of that nature to their respective department.
Any updates on this investigation will be posted online at TBINewsroom.com.
