At the request of 11th District Attorney Neal Pinkston, TBI Special Agents are investigating the circumstances surrounding an officer-involved shooting that occurred Friday morning in Hamilton County.
Preliminary information indicates that around 6:40 a.m. eastern time, deputies with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched in response to a 911 call that a burglary was in progress at a home in the 9000 block of Fuller Road. When officers arrived at that location, they heard shots being fired inside the home. Shortly afterward, an individual, identified as Matthew Paupp (DOB 10/6/82), came outside of the residence. The initial reports indicate he was holding a weapon and pointed it at deputies. One deputy fired at Paupp, striking him. He was transported to a local hospital, where he is being treated, and at last check was in stable condition. No law enforcement officers were injured.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. TBI Special Agents continue to interview witnesses and collect evidence.
As is our policy, TBI does not identify the officers involved in officer-involved shootings. We refer questions of that nature to their respective agencies.
As with any case the TBI investigates, our investigative findings will be shared with the District Attorney General throughout the process for his review and consideration.
