NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has obtained a plea in the case of a police officer accused of stealing and selling equipment from his department.
At the request of District Attorney General Bill Whitesell, TBI Special Agents began investigating Murfreesboro Police Officer Jason Lowder on January 28, 2014. During the investigation, Agents developed information that between January 2013 and January 2014, Lowder took and sold used bulletproof vests on Craigslist and Armslist. The investigation further revealed that Lowder made at least one sale from the back of his patrol vehicle while in uniform. Lowder later admitted to selling the equipment and resigned his position with Murfreesboro Police.
On June 6th, before Judge David Bragg, Lowder entered an information plea to a charge of Theft Over $500. As part of the agreement, the 33-year-old will serve probation, pay $1,000 in restitution, and surrender his certification as a police officer in Tennessee.
