NASHVILLE-Special Agents of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation have arrested the former City Recorder of Collinwood, Melissa Dawn Broome, for theft.
On January 7, 2014, at the request of District Attorney General Mike Bottoms, the TBI began an investigation into possible theft of money from the City of Collinwood. The Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury conducted an audit and determined approximately $100,000 in cash payments had been collected by the City of Collinwood, but were never deposited into the city’s bank accounts.
Broome, 38, admitted that from December 2011 to July 2013, she stole the cash payments for her personal use from the Collinwood City Hall during her employment as the City Recorder. Broome ended her employment with the city in July 2013.
Broome has been charged with one count of Theft over $60,000. At the time of this release, she is currently being held in the Wayne County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
