MEMPHIS –The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department arrested a second woman in connection with this murder investigation.

Earlier today, Kimberly Ransom, age 21 of Cordova, TN was arrested and charged with Filing a False Report to Law Enforcement. During the course of this investigation, Ransom used an alias name and provided law enforcement with false information regarding details of Mr. Assemu’s murder. Ransom is being held at the Fayette County Jail on a $25,000 bond.

On Friday, December 6, 2013, 43 year old Zewdneh Assemu of Bartlett, was found beaten and stabbed to death by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office in a field near Highway 196 North. The cab Assemu was driving was located near the scene along with some of his personal belongings. The victim was found after his wife reported him missing to police. At the request of the Office of District Attorney General Mike Dunavant, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation began the investigation with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department.

 This investigation is active and ongoing.
