Memphis, Tenn. – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation today charged a Drummonds man with murdering his wife.

Richard Alan Hatchel, 40, of Drummonds was charged today with one count of premeditated first degree murder and one count of reckless endangerment. On January 25, 2013, the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office responded to 262 Adams Street for a welfare check. Deputies found Hatchel’s wife, Shannon Hatchel, 32, bleeding on the couch from a gunshot wound and a rifle lying in the middle of the floor. The next day, Richard Hatchel contacted authorities asking if there was a warrant for his arrest. The morning of Shannon’s death, Richard stated that he and Shannon had been arguing, he retrieved a rifle from his car and shot her knowing there was a 5-year-old child nearby.

Hatchel was booked into the Tipton County Jail without bond. He is scheduled to be arraigned in court tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. TBI investigated the case with the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office, Department of Children’s Services and the 25th Judicial District Attorney General’s office.
