At the request of 23rd Judicial District Attorney General Ray Crouch and 19th Judicial District Attorney General Robert Nash, TBI special agents are investigating the circumstances that led to an officer-involved shooting Friday morning in Montgomery County.

Preliminary information indicates that at around 3:30, deputies with the Dickson County Sheriff’s Office were responding to a call regarding a stolen trailer. They located the trailer along with a male subject who fired shots at deputies and then drove away. The subject led deputies on a brief pursuit which ended with the man crashing near the intersection of Hwy 48 North and Little Barton’s Creek Road in Montgomery County. The subject exited the vehicle with a firearm and, for reasons still under investigation, deputies fired shots at the man fatally wounding him.

TBI agents are working to independently determine the series of events leading to the shooting, including collecting evidence and conducting interviews. Throughout the process, investigative findings will be shared with the District Attorney Generals for their further review and consideration. The TBI acts solely as fact-finders in its cases and does not determine whether the actions of an officer were justified in these types of matters. That decision rests with the District Attorney General requesting TBI’s involvement. 

The TBI does not identify the officers involved in these types of incidents and instead refers questions of that nature to the respective department to answer as it sees fit.
