KNOX COUNTY – An investigation by special agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has resulted in the indictment of a former Knoxville police officer.
In June, at the request of 6th Judicial District Attorney General Charme Allen, TBI agents began investigating allegations involving Shigeki Nagamoto (DOB: 11/19/87), who was employed by the Knoxville Police Department at the time. During the investigation, agents gathered evidence indicating that in December 2024, while at the scene of a reported death, Nagamoto exposed and inappropriately touched part of a deceased woman’s body.
Today, the Knox County Grand Jury returned an indictment charging Nagamoto with one count of Abuse of a Corpse. This evening, he turned himself in and was booked into the Knox County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
The charges and allegations referenced in this release are merely accusations of criminal conduct, not evidence. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and convicted through due process of law.
