UPDATED 4/29/24 at 9:47 ET: The deceased individual has been identified as Jamauri D. Griffin (DOB: 6/13/98).

At the request of 6th Judicial District Attorney General Charme Allen, TBI special agents continue to investigate the circumstances of a fatal officer-involved shooting Saturday morning in Knoxville.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:40 a.m. at a home in the 4700 block of Santala Drive, where two officers from the Knoxville Police Department responded to a report of a domestic disturbance. Preliminary information indicates that after officers entered the home and identified themselves, the man produced a firearm and shot the woman. The officers then shot the man, who died at the scene. The woman was hospitalized with a gunshot wound. No law enforcement officers were hurt in the incident.

TBI agents are working to independently determine the series of events leading to the shooting, including collecting evidence and conducting interviews. Throughout the process, investigative findings will be shared with the District Attorney General for her further review and consideration. The TBI acts solely as fact-finders in its cases and does not determine whether the actions of an officer were justified in these types of matters. That decision rests with the District Attorney General requesting TBI’s involvement.

The TBI does not identify the officers involved in these types of incidents and instead refers questions of that nature to the respective department to answer as it sees fit.

Any available updates on this investigation will be posted online at TBINewsroom.com
