JEFFERSON COUNTY – Ongoing casework by Special Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has resulted in additional charges against a former New Market police officer.
Earlier this year, at the request of 4th District Attorney General James Dunn, TBI Agents, along with investigators with the 4th Judicial Drug Task Force, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the 4th Judicial District Attorney General’s Office, and the Knoxville Police Department, began investigating New Market police officer Joseph Ray Miller. During the course of the investigation, Agents developed information that indicated Miller attempted to arrange a sexual encounter with a female under the age of 13. On May 3rd, Miller was arrested and charged with one count of Solicitation of a Minor. He was subsequently terminated from his position with the New Market Police Department.
As part of the ongoing investigation, agents developed information that Miller attempted to solicit an underage girl for sex on more than one occasion.
Last month, the Jefferson County Grand jury returned indictments charging Miller (DOB 01/04/76) with two counts of Solicitation of a Minor, one count of Attempt to Commit Rape of a Child, one count of Solicitation of Child Rape, and one count of Official Misconduct. Today, he turned himself in and was booked into the Jefferson County Jail.
