SELMER – At the request of 25th Judicial District Attorney General Mark Davidson, TBI Special Agents are investigating the circumstances leading to an officer-involved shooting that occurred late Monday night in McNairy County.
Preliminary information indicates the incident occurred at approximately 11:58 p.m. Monday, at a residence located in the 200 block of Oak Street in Selmer. Reports from the scene indicate that while assisting the Selmer Police Department with a domestic related call, deputies with the McNairy County Sheriff’s Office reported witnessing Courvousia Laster (DOB: 3/2/94) in an altercation with another man during which he pulled a weapon on the individual. At that point, a McNairy County deputy fired his service weapon, striking Laster. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment. No other injuries were reported during the incident.
At this time, the investigation remains active and ongoing. As in any case, our investigative findings will be shared with the District Attorney General throughout the process for his consideration and review.
As is our policy, the TBI does not identify the officers involved in these types of incidents and instead refers questions of that nature to their respective department.
Any updates on this investigation will be posted online at TBINewsroom.com.
