KINGSPORT – An investigation by Special Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has resulted in the arrest of a Kingsport man in connection to an officer-involved shooting that occurred last month.

At the request of 2nd District Attorney General Barry Staubus, TBI Special Agents began investigating an officer-involved shooting incident that occurred on April 17th in Kingsport. The investigation revealed that officers with the Kingsport Police Department responded to a home in the 100 block of Mullins Street in reference to a domestic assault. Upon arrival, officers made contact with Andrew C. Witt who was armed with a knife. Witt ignored verbal commands to drop the knife and approached officers with the weapon. Two officers fired shots, striking him in the torso and leg. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

On May 8th, the Sullivan County Grand Jury returned indictments charging Witt with two counts of Aggravated Assault and one count of Domestic Assault. This evening, he was arrested and booked into the Sullivan County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
