At the request of 16th District Attorney General Jennings Jones, TBI Agents continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding a fatal officer-involved shooting Wednesday night in Rutherford County.
Preliminary information indicates deputies from the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a man, identified as Allon Jones (DOB 5/1/75), possibly holding family members hostage at a home located in the 200 block of Breeze Drive. The deputies tried to negotiate with Jones for a period of time, but the situation escalated when he reportedly exited the home, brandished a firearm, and pointed it in the direction of the law enforcement officers. The deputies subsequently fired at Jones, striking him. Medics took him to St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. No law enforcement officers were injured in the incident.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation, as TBI Special Agents continue to work to gather any and all relevant interviews and evidence. As in any case, TBI’s investigative findings will be shared with the District Attorney General throughout the process for his consideration and review.
As is our policy, the TBI does not identify the officers involved in these types of incidents and instead refers questions of that nature to their respective department.
Any updates on this investigation will be posted online at TBINewsroom.com.
