UPDATED 1/26/19, 10:40 a.m.: The deceased individual has been identified as Jeffery Lynn Jones (DOB 11/10/1958).
At the request of 29th District Attorney General Danny Goodman, TBI Special Agents are investigating the circumstances that led to an officer-involved shooting that occurred Friday night in Dyersburg.
According to preliminary information, at approximately 8:15 p.m. Friday, deputies with the Dyer County Sheriff’s Office and troopers with the Tennessee Highway Patrol responded to a residence on Honeysuckle Cove in Dyersburg, after receiving a complaint of a domestic disturbance at that location. The initial investigation indicates that when deputies arrived at the scene, they could see a man through the window inside the home, carrying a long gun. After a gunshot was heard from inside the house, one deputy approached the door. The man inside appeared at the glass door, holding both a long gun and a pistol. When the man pointed the pistol at the deputy, the officer fired at the subject, striking him. The man died at the scene. None of the law enforcement officers were injured during the incident. The name of the deceased male is currently being withheld until relatives have been notified.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation, as TBI Special Agents continue to gather any and all relevant interviews and evidence. As in any case, our investigative findings will be shared with the District Attorney General throughout the process for his consideration and review.
As is our policy, the TBI does not identify the officers involved in these types of incidents and instead refers questions of that nature to their respective department.
Any updates on this investigation will be posted online at TBINewsroom.com.
