At the request of District Attorney General Amy Weirich, TBI Special Agents are investigating the circumstances that led to an officer-involved shooting that occurred Wednesday night in Memphis.

Preliminary information indicates that shortly after 8:00 p.m., officers with the Memphis Police Department responded to a call of a domestic disturbance at a residence at 1317 Timothy Street. As officers responded to the scene, a male ran toward them with a knife. The initial investigation indicates three officers fired, striking the subject. The subject was deceased at the scene. No police officers were injured during the incident. The identity of the deceased man is currently being withheld pending notification of relatives.

This continues to be an active and ongoing investigation. Multiple Special Agents, assisted by a team of Special Agent Forensic Scientists with the Violent Crime Response Team from the Memphis lab, continue to work through the night to gather any and all relevant interviews and evidence. As with any case, our investigative findings will be shared with the District Attorney General throughout the process, for her consideration and review.

As is our policy, TBI does not identify officers involved in these types of incidents, and instead refers questions of that nature to the respective agency.

Any updates on this investigation will be posted on the TBI newsroom blog, at https://tbinewsroom.com/.
