Skeletal remains discovered in November of last year as part of an investigation by Special Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation have been positively identified as a woman missing from Claiborne County.
In April 2017, Veronica Casciato was reported missing from Claiborne County. Several days later, her vehicle was found in a parking area near the Eagle Gap trailhead in Monroe County. TBI Agents along with numerous other agencies searched the area for Casciato on several different occasions with no success.
In November 2017, Agents were alerted after personal belongings of Casciato were found by hunters in the Cherokee National Forest. TBI Agents along with a search and rescue team from the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office responded to the approximate location and began searching. The team found partial skeletal remains in a remote area of Eagle Gap. The remains were sent to the Regional Forensic Center where they were determined to be human. A sample of the skeletal remains was submitted to the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification where a DNA comparison was completed. This week, Agents were notified that the remains were those of Veronica Casciato.
At this time, the investigation remains active an ongoing.
