UPDATE (8:15 AM, October 9th): The deceased subject has been identified as Isaiah D. Ramirez, DOB 8/20/82.

At the request of 7th District Attorney General Dave Clark, TBI Agents are investigating the circumstances surrounding an officer-involved shooting that occurred Monday evening in Oak Ridge.

Preliminary information indicates the incident occurred around 6:30 PM when officers with the Oak Ridge Police Department spotted an individual along Cumberland View Drive that they recognized to have outstanding warrants. Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop but the male subject, who was driving a pickup truck with a utility trailer attached, refused to stop.  A pursuit ensued and the vehicle led officers to the Anderson County Clerk’s Office parking lot located along Emory Valley Road. Officers again attempted to stop the vehicle and apprehend the subject. At some point during the confrontation, the subject struck one of the officers with his vehicle. At least one officer fired shots at the vehicle, striking the driver. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The injured Oak Ridge officer was also transported to the hospital for treatment and has since been released.

At this time, the investigation is active and ongoing. TBI Agents and Forensic Scientists continue to gather relevant evidence and interviews in connection to this incident. As in any case, our investigative findings will be shared with the District Attorney General throughout the process for his consideration and review.

As is our policy, the TBI does not identify the officers involved in these types of incidents and instead refers questions of that nature to their respective departments.

Updates on this investigation will be posted online at TBINewsroom.com.
