Updated 4/8 at 12:30 p.m. CT: The individual who was shot has been identified as a 17-year-old male from La Vergne. He remains hospitalized.
At the request of 16th District Attorney General Jennings Jones, TBI Special Agents are investigating the circumstances leading up to an officer-involved shooting that occurred this afternoon in La Vergne.
Preliminary information indicates the incident occurred following an attempted traffic stop on Sandhill Road by officers with the La Vergne Police Department. The driver reportedly drove toward the officers with his vehicle, nearly hitting them. One of the officers fired shots into the vehicle, striking the subject. The driver continued to flee before crashing the vehicle approximately a mile from the scene of the initial traffic stop. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
TBI Agents continue to gather any and all relevant evidence, interviews, and information. As in any case, our investigative findings will be shared with the District Attorney General throughout the process for his consideration and review.
As a reminder, the TBI does not identify the officers involved in these types of incidents, and instead refers questions of that nature to their respective department.
Updates on this investigation will be posted online at TBINewsroom.com as they are available.
