Updated at 10:45am CST on 1/24/2018: The individual injured in the incident has been identified as Tyrone Whitfield, DOB 11/27/1990. Whitfield remains in critical condition at an area hospital. The passenger in the vehicle has been identified as Jonathan Davis, DOB 9/19/1988. This investigation remains active and ongoing.

MEMPHIS –At the request of District Attorney General Amy Weirich, Special Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation are investigating an Officer-Involved Shooting that occurred near the 5800 block of Ferguson Road in Bartlett, Tennessee.

Preliminary information indicates, that at approximately 12:20pm CST, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, the Memphis Police Department, and the Bartlett Police Department were attempting to stop a vehicle near the 5800 block of Ferguson Road in Bartlett, Tennessee. The car was the subject of a stolen vehicle investigation as well as suspected for involvement in a recent armed robbery. The law enforcement agencies where attempting to apprehend the vehicle when the driver began ramming into the law enforcement vehicles and the surrounding private property. This resulted in a Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputy discharging their firearm ultimately striking the driver of the vehicle. The driver was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. No law enforcement personnel were injured during this incident.

The passenger in the vehicle was taken into custody without any injuries.

TBI Special Agents, assisted by a team of Forensic Scientists, will gather any and all relevant interviews and evidence as part of this ongoing investigation. As in any case, our investigative findings will be shared with the District Attorney General throughout the process for their consideration and review.
