MEMPHIS –At the request of District Attorney General Amy Weirich, Special Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation are investigating an Officer-Involved Shooting that occurred near the 1100 block of Decatur Street in Memphis, Tennessee.
Preliminary information indicates, that at approximately 3:00pm CST, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit was attempting to apprehend Brian Gregory, DOB 11/9/1983, in order to execute a search warrant of his residence. The Sheriff’s Deputies blocked-in Gregory’s car near the 1100 block of Decatur Street when Gregory began ramming into the Deputies’ vehicles. The Deputies exited their vehicles and began giving Gregory commands when he then reached for a firearm inside the vehicle. This resulted in two Deputies discharging their firearms ultimately striking Gregory. Gregory was transported to Regional One Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.
Another passenger in Gregory’s vehicle identified as Richard Gorman, DOB 11/27/1990, was taken into custody by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office during this incident. Gorman did not sustain any injuries.
One Deputy was injured in the incident, but has subsequently been released from the hospital in stable condition.
TBI Special Agents, assisted by a team of Forensic Scientists, will gather any and all relevant interviews and evidence as part of this ongoing investigation. As in any case, our investigative findings will be shared with the District Attorney General throughout the process for their consideration and review.
As is our policy, the TBI does not identify the officers involved in these types of incidents and instead refers questions of that nature to their respective department.
