Updated at 12/3/17 at 2:20 p.m. ET: The male subject has been identified as Timothy McGill (DOB 7/16/76). He remains hospitalized.

At the request of 4th District Attorney General James Dunn, TBI Special Agents are investigating the circumstances surrounding an officer-involved shooting that occurred early Sunday morning at a home on Joyce Way in Kodak.

Preliminary information indicates that deputies with the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office responded to the residence after receiving a call from a female saying her husband was threatening to harm himself. Upon arrival, a confrontation occurred with the male subject which resulted in deputies firing shots, striking him. He was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for treatment. No deputies were injured.

TBI Special Agents are in the process of interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence that is relevant to the investigation. This remains an active and ongoing investigation. At the conclusion of the investigation, Agents will submit the findings to the District Attorney General for his review and consideration.

As is our policy, the TBI does not identify officers involved in these types of incidents and instead refers questions of that nature to their respective department.

Updates on this investigation will be posted online at TBINewsroom.com as they are available.
