Updated 9:40 a.m. – The deceased individual has been identified as Roger Raymond York, Jr. (DOB 8/9/85), of Clinton, TN.
At the request of 7th District Attorney General Dave Clark, TBI Special Agents are investigating the circumstances surrounding an officer-involved shooting that occurred just after 9:00 PM Wednesday in Clinton, Tennessee.
Preliminary information indicates that three officers with the Clinton Police Department responded to a home in the 1000 block of East Drive after receiving information that a male subject with outstanding warrants was at the residence. Upon arrival, officers confirmed the individual was at the home and attempted to take him into custody. The subject attempted to evade officers by climbing out a window. At some point during the encounter, the subject fired a weapon at officers which resulted in one of the officers returning fire, striking the subject. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The officers were not injured.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. Special Agents continue to interview witnesses relevant to the investigation. TBI Special Agent Forensic Scientists with the Violent Crime Response Team also responded and will be collecting evidence and processing the scene throughout the night. As in any case, our investigative findings will be shared with the District Attorney General throughout the process for his consideration and review.
As is our policy, the TBI does not identify the officers involved in these types of incidents and instead refers questions of that nature to their respective department.
