Updated 8:50am November 2: The deceased individual has been identified as Paul Landis Gorden, DOB 9/19/1978.
At the request of District Attorney General Bryant Dunaway, TBI Special Agents are investigating the circumstances surrounding an officer-involved shooting that occurred Tuesday night around 5 pm in Livingston.
Initial reports from the investigation indicate that a resident on Pedalbrook Lane contacted law-enforcement authorities to report an abandoned vehicle with bullet holes on his property. When two deputies with the Overton County Sheriff’s Department arrived at the scene, a male walked out of a nearby tree line and toward them. During a confrontation with the man, officers reported the man produced a handgun. At that point, shots were fired by law enforcement, striking the subject. The man, who has not yet been identified, died at the scene.
No officers were injured. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
TBI Special Agent Forensic Scientists with the Violent Crimes Response Team have also responded to the scene and will be collecting evidence and documenting the scene through the night.
TBI Agents serve as fact-finders in these investigations. At the conclusion of the investigation, Agents will submit the findings to the District Attorney General for his review and consideration.
The TBI does not identify officers involved in these types of investigations, and instead refers such inquiries to the respective local law enforcement agencies.
