Updated at 4:25 p.m., 6/20: The individual who died in today’s shooting has been identified as David Bryan Creson, DOB 10/2/1976, of Franklin, TN.
At the request of 21st District Attorney General Kim Helper, TBI Special Agents are investigating the circumstances surrounding an officer-involved shooting that occurred Tuesday morning in Williamson County.
Preliminary information indicates the incident began around 9:30 a.m, when officers with the Franklin Police Department began pursuing a vehicle that had been reported stolen. After a period of time, the Franklin PD officers ceased their pursuit. Around 10:40 a.m., Deputies with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office spotted the vehicle near Lewisburg Pike. They initiated a pursuit that continued over the I-65 overpass at Peytonsville Road. The driver of the vehicle came to a stop on the overpass, got out of the vehicle, and brandished a weapon at the two deputies. One of the deputies fired, striking the driver. The driver was deceased at the scene. One of the deputies sustained a leg injury during the incident.
The TBI currently has Agents gathering relevant information, interviews, and evidence in connection to this active and ongoing case. Special Agent/ Forensic Scientists with the Nashville Forensics Unit are present in the Violent Crimes Response Team to collect relevant evidence and collect measurements and photographs of the scene. In turn, investigative findings will be submitted to the District Attorney General for her further review and consideration. As a reminder, the TBI acts as ‘fact-finders’ in its cases. The decision as to whether the actions of the officers were justified rests solely with the District Attorney General.
Per TBI policy, the agency will not identify the officers involved in this incident and will instead refer questions of that nature to their department.
Updates on this investigation will be posted online at TBINewsroom.com.
