COOKEVILLE – An investigation by Special Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has resulted in the indictment of an Overton County man on sexual battery and sexual exploitation charges involving a minor.
At the request of 13th District Attorney General Bryant Dunaway, on November 15, 2016, Special Agents began investigating Clayton Wesley Copeland on complaints on sex-related allegations involving a minor victim. During the course of the investigation, Agents developed information that identified Copeland as the individual responsible for the sexual battery and sexual exploitation of the victim.
On Tuesday, the Overton County Grand Jury returned indictments charging Copeland (DOB 3/12/1998) with one count of Aggravated Sexual Battery and one count of Aggravated Sexual Exploitation of a Minor. Copeland was served on the charges today at the Overton County Jail, where he is being held on unrelated charges. His bond is set at $75,000.
