At the request of 17th District Attorney General Rob Carter, TBI Special Agents are investigation an officer-involved shooting that occurred Monday morning in Lewisburg.

Around 10:15 a.m. CT, a call came in to dispatch that an individual known to have an active Order of Protection was at the CW Cuts hair salon at 1300 S. Ellington Parkway in Lewisburg. A few minutes later, another call came in that the individual had a gun. A deputy with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene. Shots were exchanged between the subject (Steven A. Hopwood, DOB 12/28/65) and the deputy. The deputy sustained a non-life-threatening injury and was subsequently transported to the hospital for treatment. Other deputies with the Sheriff’s Department arrived at the scene, and the subject fired at them as well. None of those deputies were struck.  A SWAT team with the Lewisburg Police Department responded to the scene, and once they made entry, found Steven Hopwood deceased. Officers also found several hostages unharmed in an adjacent room.

The TBI has Agents working to gather any and all relevant evidence and interviews in connection to this case and will share findings with the District Attorney General throughout the process.

Per TBI policy, the agency does not identify the officer/s involved in these types of incidents and instead refers questions of that nature to their respective department/s.
