At the request of 22nd District Attorney General Brent Cooper, TBI Special Agents continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding an officer-involved shooting Tuesday night in Mount Pleasant.
Preliminary information indicates a Mount Pleasant officer attempted to execute a traffic stop on a suspected DUI driver, the subject of a Be-On-The-Lookout, shortly before 9 o’clock CST. The driver, however, didn’t immediately stop and instead led the officer on a brief pursuit, which ended at the intersection of Mount Joy Road and South Main Street. There, the suspect, identified as Bradley Ross Nelson (DOB 3-15-81), exited his vehicle and brandished a weapon. The situation further escalated and resulted in the officer firing his weapon, striking the subject, who later died from his injuries at Maury Regional Medical Center. No law enforcement officers were injured in connection to this incident.
TBI Agents continue to collect relevant evidence and interviews as part of the ongoing investigation, and throughout the process, will share findings with the District Attorney General for his further review and consideration.
Per the agency’s policy, TBI will not identify the officer involved in this incident, and will instead refer questions of that nature to his department.
Additional updates on this incident, should they be made available, will be posted to this online article.
