NASHVILLE – An investigation by Special Agents with the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has resulted in the arrest of a Lawrence County home care worker on charges of using a client’s debit card.

On June 14, 2016, TBI Special Agents joined Adult Protective Services and the Lawrenceburg Police Department in investigating Jennifer Nicole Mitchell. At that time, Mitchell worked as a home health caregiver. During the course of the investigation, Agents developed information that in May 2016, Mitchell used her client’s debit card to obtain money from an ATM in a Lawrenceburg convenience store, without the client’s knowledge or permission. Mitchell is no longer employed as a caregiver.

On November 16,  2016, the Lawrence County Grand Jury returned indictments charging Mitchell, 26, with one count of Willful Abuse, Neglect or Exploitation, and one count of Illegal Possession or Unauthorized Use of a Debit Card. Mitchell was arrested on December 18, 2016, by officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department and booked into the Lawrence County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
