 JOB DUTIES

Responsible for receiving forensic evidence into the laboratory from law enforcement officers. Enters data, including demographic case data and laboratory test assignments using the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Distributes evidence within the crime laboratory under proper chain of custody, performs basic clerical activities, and testifies in court as required regarding chain of custody.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience: Education equivalent to graduation from a standard high school and two years of full-time experience in one or a combination of the following areas: (1) any professional laboratory work or; (2) non-professional laboratory work receiving and classifying evidence or; (3) any professional law enforcement work or; (4) non-professional law enforcement work receiving and classifying evidence. Course work credit received from an accredited college or university may substitute for the required experience on a month-for-month basis to a maximum of two years.

 MONTHLY SALARY RANGE

$2,637 – $4,219

SOFTWARE DEVELOPER-JR

JOB DUTIES

Responsible for designing and coding new applications or making modifications to existing applications. Provides user technical support for multiple TBI developed applications, including the public-facing Sex Offender Registry web interface, Expungement and Diversion applications, TBI Building Security Access application and CJIS Support Center’s NCIC Validations program. Designs and creates SQL and Oracle entities, including tables, stored procedures, indexes and triggers.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree and one year of professional level experience in systems analysis, application design, or software development of business information systems.

Substitution of a Specific Associate’s Degree for the Required Bachelor’s Degree: Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Information Technology related associate’s degree may substitute for the required bachelor’s degree.

Substitution of Experience for the Specific Associates Degree: Professional level experience in the following area may substitute for the required Information Technology associate’s degree on a year-for-year basis to a maximum substitution of two years: systems analysis, application design, or software development of business information systems.

Substitution of Graduate Coursework for the Required Experience: Any additional graduate coursework in software development may substitute for the required experience on a year for year basis to a maximum substitution of one year. OR

One year of experience as an Information Systems Associate* in training for software development with the State of Tennessee.

SALARY RANGE

$4,973 – $7,955

TBI SPECIAL AGENT-FORENSIC SCIENTIST 1

CODIS UNIT, TBI HEADQUARTERS

JOB DUTIES

Responsible for analyzing database samples (blood swatches and buccal swabs) to obtain DNA profiles for comparison purposes of CODIS database matches.  Utilizes FBI-provided CODIS software to track results of weekly database searches between forensic specimens and convicted offender and arrestee DNA samples.  Testifies in local, state, and federal courts on the results of forensic analysis. Continually trains in court room procedures, new defense strategies, and up-to-date scientific reports. Consults with criminal court attorneys and law enforcement investigators. Creates and reviews documentation associated with all database matches prior to notification of law enforcement agencies. Performs basic laboratory quality control procedures for instrument maintenance and intake of new reagents. Performs crime scene investigations of homicides and technical assists for other types of possible criminal activity requiring scientific intervention. Utilizes an alternate light source, photography, various chemicals, and measuring equipment to accomplish these tasks.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, mathematics, or other natural or physical sciences; medical technology; forensic science, criminalistics, or other forensic related areas; including a minimum of thirty-six quarter hours in chemistry.

 MONTHLY SALARY RANGE

 $3,777 – $5,860
