JOHNSON CITY – A joint investigation, including Special Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, agents with the 2nd Judicial District Drug Task Force, the Kingsport Vice Unit, the Office of the Inspector General, and the offices of 1st District Attorney General Tony Clark and 2nd District Attorney General Barry Staubus, has resulted in the arrests of ten individuals on drug-related charges.

On February 19, 2014, a pharmacy technician in a Kingsport drug store discovered multiple prescriptions that appeared to be fraudulent, and reported the suspected fraud to Drug Task Force agents. In March 2014, TBI Special Agents were brought in when it appeared that some of the drugs were being passed in multiple jurisdictions. During the course of the investigation, Agents determined that multiple employees working at a pain rehab clinic in Johnson City were calling in and writing fraudulent prescriptions, using the clinic doctor’s information. The investigation determined that the doctor was unaware employees were filling the fraudulent prescriptions. Agents further learned that the employees recruited other individuals in the Tri-Cities area to fill fraudulent prescriptions, using the recruits’ personal information. The investigation revealed that from August 20, 2012 through June 22, 2014, more than 400 fraudulent prescriptions were passed, and more than 40,000 controlled tablets were obtained by fraud by these individuals.

In recent weeks, the Sullivan County Grand Jury and the Washington County Grand Jury each returned indictments charging  several individuals with multiple drug-related charges as a result of this investigation. Those who have been arrested include:
