NASHVILLE – A joint investigation with Special Agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and investigators with the Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury has resulted in the indictment and arrest of a Waynesboro woman on a theft charge.
At the request of the 22nd District Attorney General’s office, TBI Special Agents began investigating the finances of the Wayne County School Department on June 3, 2013, after an audit by the Comptroller’s office discovered discrepancies. During the course of the investigation, TBI Agents developed information that Heather Hunt Long, who had been employed as the Federal Projects Bookkeeper and payroll clerk, had received several payroll checks from 2010 through 2013 that were determined to be unauthorized.
On Friday, the Wayne County Grand Jury returned an indictment charging Long, 34, with one count of Theft over $10,000. She was arrested and booked into the Wayne County Jail on a $25,000 bond. Long is no longer employed by the Wayne County School Department.
