JACKSON – Special Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation have obtained indictments charging a Halls, Tennessee, woman with theft.

At the request of 29th District Attorney General Phillip Bivens, TBI Special Agents, working with investigators with the Office of the Comptroller of the Treasury, began investigating Susan Scearce on January 26, 2012. At that time, Scearce was a Deputy Electrical Inspector who worked as a contract employee with the Department of Commerce and Insurance. During the course of the investigation and upon completion of an audit by the Comptroller’s office, Agents developed information that Scearce forged inspection documents and charged excessive prices for permits.

On February 9th, the Dyer County Grand Jury returned indictments against Susan Scearce, 56, charging her with two counts of Theft over $1,000. Scearce was arrested on February 10th and booked at the Dyer County Jail. She was released after posting a $1,000 bond.
