NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has obtained an indictment for an inmate accused of killing his cellmate at a Wayne County prison.

At the request of 22nd District Attorney General Mike Bottoms, TBI Agents, along with the Tennessee Department of Correction, began investigating the death of 43-year-old Jeffery T. Sills on March 28th. On that date, an attack occurred at South Central Correctional Facility in Clifton, which led to the death of Sills after being transported to a Waynesboro hospital. During the course of the investigation, Agents developed information which connected Sills’ cellmate, Travis E. Bess, to the crime.

On June 13th, the Wayne County Grand Jury returned an indictment for Bess, charging the 33-year-old with one count of First Degree Murder. On Thursday, he was served with the charge and remains in the custody of the Tennessee Department of Correction.
