NASHVILLE- The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation this afternoon arrested a former correctional officer for misconduct after he agreed to smuggle contraband into Riverbend Maximum Security Institution during a TBI sting last month.
Kevin Simmons, 35, of Clarksville, Tenn. was indicted by the Wilson County grand jury earlier this week on one count of official misconduct. On October 15, 2013, Simmons met another individual at the Comfort inn in Mt. Juliet and agreed to sneak a pack of tobacco rolling papers, perfume, a cell phone, a cell phone minutes cared and a note into a Tennessee Department of Correction inmate being housed at Riverbend in exchange for $3,000. Simmons was working at Riverbend at the time of the sting. He has since been terminated.
Simmons was booked into the Wilson County Jail.
