NASHVILLE- The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has charged the subject who was shot by officers with the Millersville Police Department during a traffic stop last month events leading up to the shooting.

Richard Mayers, 50, of Nashville, was charged with three counts of aggravated assault, one count of felony evading arrest, one count of being a convicted felon in unlawful possession of a weapon and one count of possession with intent to deliver a schedule III controlled substance. On August 15, 2013, the Millersville Police Department initiated a traffic stop after receiving information that Mayers had active warrants on file, was in possession of a firearm as a convicted felon and was in possession of drugs to sell. Mayers resisted arrest and fled from police with the pursuit ending at the Economy Inn Motel, then pointed his firearm at officers. Officers fired at Mayers striking him multiple times. He was transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center where he recovered from his injuries and was released yesterday.

The 18th Judicial District Attorney General requested TBI to investigate the shooting. Mayers was booked into the Sumner County Jail.
