CHATTANOOGA- The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation along with several other local, state and federal law enforcement agencies are involved in a manhunt in Bradley County this afternoon after two fugitives fled into the woods a short distance from where TBI attempted to serve warrants on a the male subject. At this time, the Bradley County Sheriff’s office is obtaining additional warrants against the couple.
TBI was attempting to take Howard Callaway, 39, of Cleveland, into custody on 32 counts of aggravated burglary out of Bradley County and violating his federal probation while on supervised released. The agent attempted to stop Calloway at the intersection of Bancroft Road and Harrison Pike when Callaway fled and attempted to run over the agent with his vehicle, the agent fired his weapon. Callaway and his passenger fled approximately two miles up Harrison Pike, abandoned the vehicle and ran into the woods on foot. Callaway is believed to be with April Michelle Gammill, 34, of Cleveland. At this time, investigators are unsure if Callaway or Gammill are injured. The TBI agent involved in the altercation was not injured. TBI does not release the names of officers or agents involved in shootings.
Callaway is described as a white male, 6’0,” 200 pounds with a tattoo on his right shoulder. He has an arrest history that includes theft, aggravated burglary, domestic assault, being a fugitive from justice, drug violations, assault and vandalism.
Gammill is described as a white female, 5’8,” 155 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. She has a tattoo on her wrist. She is wanted on a felony warrant for violating her probation on a conviction of three counts of sale and delivery of methamphetamine. She has a criminal history that includes theft, failure to appear and drug possession.
Currently, TBI, U.S. Marshal’s Service, Bradley County Sheriff’s Office, Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office are involved in the search. If anyone has seen Callaway or Gammill, please contact the TBI at 1-800-TBI-FIND (1-800-824-3463).
