Nashville, Tenn. – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation on Saturday arrested and charged Macon County man for the shooting of another man in Lafayette last week.
Tobey Wettig, 41, of 557 Church Street, Lafayette was arrested on one count of aggravated assault and five counts of reckless endangerment. At approximately 5:30 p.m. on March 14, 2013, Wettig was driving home when an unknown motorist began driving close to him which angered Wettig. After Wettig turned into his driveway the other motorist continued toward the intersection of Church Street and Ellington Drive. Wetting parked his vehicle at the edge of his driveway, pulled out his handgun and fired in the direction of the other motorist hitting 44-year-old Tommy Hillard of Lafayette. Hillard was treated at the hospital and released on March 15, 2013. Wettig was charged with one count of aggravated assault and one count of reckless endangerment for shooting Hillard. The other four reckless endangerment charges are for four other individuals who were in the vicinity when the shooting occurred.
Wettig was booked into the Macon County Jail without bond.
