This evening, as part of the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of Evelyn Mae Boswell, and acting on new information developed in the case, TBI Agents and Detectives with the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office searched a property belonging to a family member of Evelyn’s mother, Megan Boswell, in the 500 block of Muddy Creek Road in Blountville. During the search, investigators discovered human remains believed to be those of the missing 15-month-old girl. The remains will be sent for an autopsy and a positive identification.
The TBI, Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, and the FBI would like to thank the public for their support during the two-week AMBER Alert search for Evelyn Boswell.
The investigation remains active and ongoing at this time.

SULLIVAN COUNTY – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation continues to work alongside the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation to locate and recover 15-month-old Evelyn Mae Boswell, who became the subject of a statewide AMBER Alert issued by the TBI on Wednesday, February 19th.
Evelyn has blonde hair, blue eyes, stands 2’0″, and weighs approximately 28 pounds. She was last seen wearing a pink tracksuit, pink shoes, and a pink bow. Evelyn was entered as a missing child on Tuesday, February 18th, 2020, but was reportedly last seen on December 26th, 2019.
On Friday, February 20th, ongoing investigative efforts led authorities to ask for assistance in locating a gray BMW. Two individuals believed to have information regarding Evelyn’s whereabouts were traveling in the car. On Friday afternoon, the vehicle and the individuals were located in Wilkes County, North Carolina. Agents and detectives questioned the couple as part of the ongoing investigation. They are currently being held on charges unrelated to the disappearance of Evelyn Boswell.
Since issuing the AMBER Alert just before 8:00 EST Wednesday, authorities have received more than 870 leads. None, however, has produced any credible sightings regarding the whereabouts of Evelyn Boswell.
During the investigation, authorities have received a number of conflicting statements. That, combined with the fact that Evelyn was not immediately reported missing, makes this a complicated case.
Below is a list of questions associated with the AMBER Alert for 15-month-old Evelyn Boswell.
Why did it take so long to report the child missing? That’s what we are trying to determine through ongoing investigative efforts.
When was the child last seen? December 26th is listed as the date she was last seen. However, the child’s mother, along with others connected to the child, has given conflicting dates.
Where should tips be submitted? Anyone with information should call 1-800-TBI-FIND. Tips can also be emailed to TipsToTBI@tn.gov. Please do not submit tips through social media, as those platforms are not monitored 24/7.
Is there an active search? Agents and detectives continue to follow-up on leads. However, there are no active searches, as we do not have definitive information regarding Evelyn’s whereabouts. We are aware of Facebook groups that are recruiting volunteers to help search for Evelyn. While we appreciate the effort, we are not asking for the assistance of volunteers at this time.
What can I do to help? We ask that you continue to share her photos and information released from official sources, which include the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office.
What happens when you receive a tip in another state? When we receive a tip that involves another state, we ask authorities in the appropriate jurisdiction for assistance in following up on the information. As always, during an AMBER Alert, if we determine there is a credible sighting we will make the public aware.
How are tips handled? During an Amber Alert, TBI Intelligence Analysts work around the clock handling calls coming into 1-800-TBI-FIND. They also manage tips submitted through email. Tips are entered into a lead management program and assigned to an agent or detective for follow-up.

On Tuesday, February 25th, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office charged Boswell with one count of False Reporting. She is being held in the Sullivan County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
