COOKEVILLE – An investigation by Special Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has resulted in a former employee of a Putnam County resource center being booked after pleading guilty to theft from that office.                                                            

At the request of 13th District Attorney General Bryant Dunaway, on February 9, 2015, TBI Special Agents were asked to investigate a discrepancy in funds in the Housing Finance Department of the Upper Cumberland Development District in Cookeville. Investigators with the Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury had performed an audit that found that in November and December, 2014, then-employee Matthew Lynn had misappropriated UCDD funds totaling at least $16,566.

On Thursday, March 24th, Lynn turned himself in to a TBI Agent after pleading guilty on an Information to one count of Theft over $1,000. Prior to the the guilty plea, Lynn paid restitution. He was sentenced to three years of probation. Lynn, 30, was released after being booked into the Putnam County Jail.
