KNOXVILLE- The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s case against a former inmate in the Knox County Detention Center has resulted in a grand jury indictment against him.

Nikos Burgins, 33, currently incarcerated in the South Central Correctional Center, was indicted by the Knox County grand jury on August 13, 2013 on one count of solicitation to commit first degree murder. On May 29, 2012 while in the Knox County Detention Center, Burgins sent a letter to a fellow gang member who was serving time in the Morgan County Correctional Facility telling him to inform other fellow gang members in the prison to kill an inmate there who testified against him during his rape and assault case in Knox County. In the letter, Burgins told the fellow gang members to kill the victim, as soon as possible and by any means. In June of 2012, the 6th Judicial District Attorney General’s Office requested TBI to investigate.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office has put a detainer on Burgins with the Tennessee Department of Correction.
