Nashville, Tenn. – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation yesterday arrested the former police chief of McKenzie after he was indicted by the Weakley County grand jury on Monday following a TBI Investigation.
Bobby Pate, 64, of McKenzie, was indicted on one count of theft and one count of official misconduct. In January of 2013, the 24th Judicial District Attorney General requested TBI to investigate allegations of theft of property from the McKenzie Police Department. As part of the investigation, TBI executed a search warrant on Pate’s property and recovered the missing city property that included a John Deere Tractor, two street sweepers, a portable trestle hoist and two laptop computers. The property was valued at over $10,000 and went missing between 2010 and 2013 while Pate served as chief of the department. Pate retired from the department in December of 2012. The 27th Judicial District Attorney General’s office is handling the prosecution of the case.
The McKenzie Police Department and Weakley County Sheriff’s Department assisted in the investigation. Pate was booked into the Weakley County Jail. He is scheduled to appear in court on June 13, 2013.
