Jackson, Tenn. – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation today arrested a former Henry County court clerk after she was indicted on charges related to missing funds from the clerk’s office while she was employed.

Deanna Gray Treece, 63, of Springville, Tenn. was indicted by the Henry County grand jury on one count of theft over $10,000 and one count of official misconduct. Treece was employed as a General Sessions clerk in the civil division when an audit conducted by the State Comptroller’s office discovered approximately $29,000 missing from the office between July 2007 and August 2011. The investigation revealed that Treece was holding checks sent in to open civil cases and then replacing money she took with the checks.  She was able to manipulate the computer system to show the money to open the civil cases was still owed and there was no accounting for them.

Treece was booked into the Henry County Jail today on $10,000 bond. She is scheduled to appear in court on March 11, 2013.
