Jackson, Tenn. – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation today arrested a Lauderdale County man for a Crockett County murder after he was indicted by the Crockett County grand jury earlier this week.
Antonio Toomes, 29, of Ripley, was indicted on one count of first degree felony murder, one count of especially aggravated robbery and one count of especially aggravated burglary. On October 18, 2012, Matthew McKnight, 40, of 2747 Gum Flat Road in Bells, Tenn. was found shot to death in his home at approximately 1:15 pm. McKnight lived in the home with his parents and his body was discovered by his mother. It is believed that McKnight had a physical altercation with Toomes during the home burglary and was shot to death. Forensic evidence at the crime scene linked Toomes to the murder.
TBI investigated the homicide with the Crockett County Sheriff’s Office and the Ripley Police Department. Toomes was booked into the Crockett County Jail tonight without bond.
