Knoxville, Tenn. – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation charged a Claiborne County, Tenn. man in the shooting death of another man in Tazewell over the weekend. The Tazewell Police Department and Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office also were part of the investigation.
At approximately 8:00 p.m. on December 8, 2012, the Tazewell Police Department responded to multiple 911 calls for an incident that occurred at 2385 Old Highway 25-E, in Tazewell. There officers discovered one male victim shot multiple times. The victim has been identified as 56-year-old Gary Butcher of Payne Circle, in Tazewell. The victim got into an altercation with another man when the subject retrieved a gun from his vehicle and shot Butcher. The victim died at the scene. TBI charged Larry Hazelett, 64, of Williams Lane, of New Tazewell with one count of criminal homicide on December 9, 2012. He was booked into the Claiborne County Jail.
