On the afternoon of Oct. 29, agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation were called to an officer involved shooting that occurred in a wooded area behind 166 Ivey Street in Palmer, Tenn. Deputies with the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office were attempting to locate an escapee from the Grundy County Jail and arrested three other individuals for assisting the escapee when the subject fled on a four wheeler. Deputies were tracking him in the woods and when they encountered the subject he was reportedly armed. Shots were fired and the subject was hit twice. The subject’s name is Russell Smith and he was taken to Erlanger Hospital. His condition is unknown. The two deputies involved in the shooting were not injured.
